소리봉은 경기도 포천군, 양주군, 의정부시가 접해 있는 해발 537m의 작은 산으로 광릉으로 크게 알려져 있으며 현재는 임업연구원 중부임업시험장의 시험림으로 되어 있다.
조선조의 세조재위때부터 일체벌채를 금하고 조림 보호를 해온 탓으로 중부지방에서 가장 울창한 숲을 보유하고 있으며 풍부한 식물상을 나타내고 있다. 천연기념물 제197호인 크낙새의 서식지로 유명하며, 동양최대의 산림박물관과 수목원 그리고 삼림욕장이 개설되어 있어 서울을 비롯한 도시민의 휴식처로 사랑을 받고 있다.

(Mt. )Soribong is a small mountain of 537m high that is neighbouring Pochun-gun and Yangju-gun and Uijeongbu-si in the Gyeonggi-do.
This mountainis widely known as Kwangryeng and has served as the Experimental Forest of Chungbu Forest Experimental Station of Forestry Research Institute.
Because any cutting has been strictly prohibited and plantation and protection of forests have been vigorous ever since the reign of King Sejo during Yi-Danasty, this mountain shows the most densely populated forest in the middle region and contains the rich plant species. Also being well known as habitats of Drycopus javensis designated as the 197th Natural Monument, there are a Forest Museum, the largest in the oriental countries, a aboretum, and forest bath sites much favored by city residents of many areas including Seoul who come to sightsee and take a rest in the natural environment.
