가야산은 우리나라 3보사찰중 법보종철인 해인사가 자리한 것으로 유명하며 경상북도 성주군과 경상남도 합천군, 거창군에 걸쳐 있는 해발 1,430m의 수려한 산이다. 산중복부에는 소나무, 전나무, 느티나무, 물푸레나무 등이 자라며 정상부위엔 흰참꽃나무, 매발톱나무, 백리향 등이 군락을 이룬다.
1972년에 국립공원으로 지정되었으며 이산에서 발원한 계곡물은 해인사앞으로 모여 남동쪽으로 흘러가 양천을 이루며 주변의 소나무숲은 그야말로 선경을 이룬다.

Being well known as the site of Haeinsa(temple), one among 3 Great Treasured temples in Korea, (Mt. )Gaya, 1,430m high is a splendid mountain sitting in Seogju-gun in the Gyeongsangbuk-do and Hapchon-gun and Keochang-gun in the Gyeongsangnam-do . Around the midslope species of Korean Red pine, Needle fir, Zelkova, and Korean ash grow in abundance and communities of Tschonoskii Azales, barberry, and Thymus quinquecastatus are scattered around the summit area.
Designated as a National Park in 1972, this mountain includes fountainheads from where streams gather in the front of Haeinsa( temple) and drain into the southeast and form the river of Gayangchon, around where pine forests make the gorgeous landscape.
