북한산은 서울과 경기도 고양군에 걸쳐 있는 해발 863m의 바위로 이루어진 명산으로 주봉인 인수봉과 백운대, 만경대가 삼각형을 이루고 있어 일명 삼각산이라고도 불린다. 소나무, 오리나무, 신갈나무 등이 주종을 이루며 그 기슭으로 경복궁과 비원, 종묘와 창경궁의 숲은 태고의 신비를 간직한 채 잘 보존되어 있다. 특히 비원은 숲 사이로 25개의 정자가 산재해 있고 크고작은 연못들이 정취를 더하여 변화 무쌍한 자연과 건축물의 조화의 극치를 보여주고 있다. 북한산에는 향나무, 다래나무, 백송 등 천연기념물이 있고 조계사, 승가사, 도선사 등 대소 사찰이 자연과 어울려 그 멋을 더한다.


(Mt. )Bukhansan, 863m high above the sea level, is a well noted mountain extending into city of Seoul and Koyang-gun in the Kyunggi-do. This mountain is sometimes called as (Mt. )Samgaksan meaning triangle shape. The trees of Korean Red pine, East Asian alder, and Mongolian oak are dominant and forest enclosed in the Kyungbokgung palace, Biwoen garden, Jongmyo ceremonial place, and Changkyunggung palace are well preserved and still cherish the mystic charms of the old age. In articular, within Biweon garden there are 25 pavilions scattered among forests and many ponds of different sizes enhance the scenery so that incomparable harmony between the ever-changing natural environment and great architectural features could be seen during all seasons. Many Natural Monuments including Chinese juniper, Bower actinidia, and Lace Bark pine are designated in this mountain and temples of all size such as Chogyeosa(temple), Seounggasa(temple), and Doseonsa(temple) are well mixed with
natural landscapes, so that the scenic beauty is much enhanced.
