용문산은 광주산맥의 중간지점에서 남한강과 북한강을 가르는 해발 1,157m의 고산으로 경기도 양평군 용문면과 옥천면의 경계를 이룬다. 깊은 계곡과 울창한 숲이 절경을 이루며 산록에는 소나무, 잣나무, 리기다소나무 등 침엽수가 주종을 이루고 중복부 이상에는 신갈나무, 단풍나무 등의 활엽수가 자생한다.
원효대사가 창건했다는 용문사 앞에는 세계에서 가장 크다는 높이 51m의 은행나무가 있다.

(Mt. )Yongmunsan, reaching to the boundary of Yongmun-myeon and Okcheon-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun in the Gyeonggi-do, sits at the mid-point of (Mt. )Kwangjusan range and divides the watersheds into (Mt. )Namhansan and Bukhangang(rivers).
The scenery is magnificent with the deep valleys and dense
forests. In the hillside coniferous trees including Korean Red pine, Korean pine, Pitch pine are dominant and the native broadleaved trees including Mongolian oak and maple grow above the middle level. In the front of Yongmunsa(temple), established by a great monk Weonhyo, there is a ginkgo tree of 51m high that is said to be the tallest ginkgo tree in the world.
